Goat Rearing and Breeding

Goat Rearing and Breeding in Bangladesh

Beneficiary is happy to have two young kids of the mother goat.

The Goat Rearing and Breeding Project aims to provide sustainable livelihoods to poor women to help them overcome poverty permanently. Surveys on the ground indicate that livestock resources (cows and goats) are a viable option. Step to Humanity Association started this project in early 2022 by distributing 100 Black Bengal Female Goats to 100 women in Bangladesh.

The Black Bengal Goat, which is the most prized breed in the world, is native to Kushtia District in Bangladesh. This goat is known for its meat production. Each adult goat weighs 20-30 kg. The goat reaches adulthood in its early years. A female goat can give birth to 2-4 kids each year. They are easy to raise because they eat a wide variety of food. Beneficiaries receive the goat free of cost but they are encouraged not to sell the mother goat. They can sell their offspring to help support their livelihoods. Beneficiaries are also encouraged to donate one goat to their poor relative or neighbor after several breeding cycles. The latter criterion is optional but it gives the beneficiaries an opportunity to pay off their gift to a poor household when they are well-off.

The project is flourishing thanks to our donors. Our beneficiaries are able to benefit from the generosity of our donors and make a difference in their lives. With the support of our donors, Step to Humanity Association will continue this sustainable project for many years to come and expand this model to other countries.
