Bangladesh-North American Journalists Network President of Bangladesh-North American Journalists Network Vir Muktijodha Delwar Jahid presided over the virtual discussion organized on Saturday titled ‘Ocean Exploration: A Potential Tool for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’. Among others, Professor Dr. Chittagong University Department of Physical Science participated in the discussion. AKM Rezaur Rahman and Director of Training (Program) Saeed Hasan.
Dr. S. M. Rafikuzzaman, the Dean of Fisheries Faculty at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, presented the various functions of seaweed in achieving sustainable development goals. He highlighted the recent advancements in algae-based polymers and their applications in biomedical fields such as drug delivery, wound dressings, and tissue engineering.
Azizul Islam Bhuiyan, the chief guest at the event and former managing director and chief editor of Bangladesh News Agency, called for a focus on marine science education in the country. He emphasized that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh, realized the need for a legal framework to ensure a safe and secure environment in the sea during the post-independence period. He also acknowledged the current government’s efforts in developing the marine economy through maritime trade, economic prosperity, and exploration of marine resources.
